The Beginning of Bluebird Branding Agency: 10 Years of Branding Excellence

tenyrsblogheader

Ten years ago, there was no business plan for Bluebird Branding Agency. There was just an idea for a name that was sparked on a ski lift, just outside of Denver, CO. What started as a means to an end quickly evolved into something far greater.

Bluebird Branding wasn’t built overnight. It was built on talent and resilience, with a continuous dedication to exceptional brand strategy and creative work.

An Unlikely Beginning

Bluebird Branding’s story began when founder Marcus Fitzgibbons found himself at a crossroads. After leaving a job that wasn’t the right fit, he turned to freelancing while figuring out his next step. He wasn’t alone for long. Former clients sought him out, recognizing his deep understanding of their brands which he had built for them in previous roles. But it wasn’t until a conversation with his mentor, Dan, that the idea of starting a business became real. “If you wait until you figure it out, it’s never going to happen, Dan advised. And with that, the idea of Bluebird Branding was set in motion.

The name itself was born in the mountains—right when the need to come up with a good name had reached its peak. On a ski lift at Arapahoe Basin, Marcus was chatting with a friend about the new venture. Both glanced up at the impossibly clear sky. “It’s a Bluebird Day,” Marcus said; using a term skiers use to describe those perfect, cloudless mornings on the slopes. The phrase hung in the air. Simple. Bright. Memorable. It felt right…and with that, Bluebird Branding was officially in flight.

From Survival to Success

The goal at first was simple: to survive. Marcus had talent, but he was navigating the complexities of running a business for the first time. The work spoke for itself, though, and word spread. Clients continued to come in, and as demand grew, so did the team.

Jim Miller, who had worked with Marcus years before at another agency, reconnected with him and began collaborating on projects. With a background in brand strategy and PR, Jim brought new expertise to Bluebird’s evolving offerings. Initially working alongside the business as a contractor, it wasn’t long before he officially became part of the company as Chief Strategy Officer.

Karl Peters, another longtime colleague, was next to join. Having worked at large agencies, he wanted more autonomy over the work he took on and the clients he served. He reached out to Marcus, seeking something more meaningful. Over time, he became a key player and eventual partner, bringing his expertise in high-level creative execution.

A Branding Agency Built on Trust and Excellence

Bluebird Branding wasn’t created to chase industry awards or to become the biggest agency on the block. It was built on the simple belief that branding, when done right, has the power to transform businesses. From startups to established enterprises, the team believed that every client deserved world-class brand strategy and design.

Today, Bluebird Branding stands as a testament to what can happen when talented people come together with a common purpose: to create clarity, build trust, and help brands take flight.

And just like a Bluebird Day, the future looks clearer than ever.
